Heritage & Distillery

East London Liquor Company occupies a converted glue factory in Bow — a location whose industrial grittiness is entirely in keeping with the brand's no-nonsense, substance-over-style philosophy. Founded by Alex Wolpert in 2014, ELLC was among the first wave of London's craft distilleries and has maintained its commitment to producing spirits of genuine quality without the elaborate backstories and heritage mythology that attend many craft brands.

The vodka was relaunched in 2020 with a refined recipe and updated packaging, and represents the distillery's take on what a straightforward, well-made London wheat vodka should taste like. The answer, it transpires, is clean, honest, and unpretentious — qualities that mirror the brand's broader identity.

Tasting Notes

The nose is clean and straightforward — wheat, subtle citrus, a hint of white pepper, and a fresh mineral quality. On the palate, the vodka is crisp and clean with gentle wheat sweetness, light citrus brightness, a touch of grain spice, and a smooth, neutral character that makes it an excellent cocktail base. The finish is short to medium, clean with a gentle grain warmth and dry close.

Verdict

At seven out of ten, East London Liquor Co. Vodka is a commendable London craft spirit that delivers exactly what it promises — a clean, well-made wheat vodka without affectation or unnecessary complexity. At under twenty-nine pounds, it represents fair value and supports one of London's most principled independent distilleries. A reliable staple for the craft-conscious home bar.

What a beautifully crafted spirit. The nose gives you a fresh mineral quality and subtle citrus, and on the palate it's all about Crisp and clean with gentle wheat sweetness. The mouthfeel is particularly impressive — silky, full, and rewarding. The finish rounds everything off with Short to medium. Anyone who says all vodka tastes the same hasn't tried this. The review here nails it.
