Tasting Notes

Nose

Elegant and refined, with soft wheat, gentle almond, and a citrus brightness. Clean without being sterile.

Palate

Silky and smooth with gentle wheat sweetness, a touch of star anise, and a subtle peppery warmth. The mouthfeel is beautifully rounded and almost creamy.

Finish

Long and clean with a gentle warming peppery fade and lingering wheat sweetness.

Grey Goose has become synonymous with premium vodka, and whether that success is down to brilliant marketing or brilliant liquid is a debate that will run forever. Having tasted this Jeroboam — a magnificent three-litre bottle — we are firmly in the camp that says the liquid justifies the reputation.

Distilled in Cognac from soft winter wheat grown in Picardy, Grey Goose brings a distinctly French sensibility to vodka production. The nose is elegant and refined — soft wheat, gentle almond, and a citrus brightness that keeps things fresh. It is a nose that invites you in rather than assaulting you.

On the palate, the famous smoothness is immediately evident. A silky texture carries gentle wheat sweetness, a touch of star anise, and a subtle peppery warmth. The mouthfeel is beautifully rounded, almost creamy, and the finish is long and clean with a gentle warming fade.

At £313 for three litres, the Jeroboam format works out to roughly £104 per standard bottle — comparable to the regular 70cl pricing with the added theatre of an enormous bottle. As a centrepiece for a party, a gift for someone who appreciates the finer things, or simply a practical investment for a household that drinks a lot of Grey Goose, it makes perfect sense.

A Platinum medal at the World Spirits Championship and a staple pour in bars worldwide — Grey Goose has earned its place at the top table.

I keep coming back to this bottle and appreciating the subtlety. The with soft wheat on the nose is genuinely there if you take a moment to notice. On the palate, The mouthfeel is beautifully rounded and almost creamy is rich and satisfying, with wonderful depth developing. A vodka that rewards attention. At 40% ABV, the proof is perfectly judged.
