Heritage & Distillery

Sapling Spirits have built their brand on two pillars: quality British wheat vodka and a genuine environmental commitment that sees a tree planted for every bottle sold. The cynical consumer might regard this as marketing, but Sapling's partnership with established reforestation charities lends their environmental claims genuine credibility, and the vodka itself is sufficiently good to stand on its own merits regardless of the ecological narrative.

Distilled exclusively from British wheat — four times, for extra smoothness — Sapling is a vodka that wears its English provenance openly. The quadruple distillation is a statement of intent, producing a spirit of considerable purity and smoothness.

Production & Tasting

On the nose, Sapling is clean and crisp, with sweet wheat aromas, gentle vanilla, and a fresh, slightly floral quality that adds interest. The palate delivers on the smoothness that quadruple distillation promises — extra-smooth is an apt descriptor, with a crisp, sweet character, gentle cream, and a well-balanced, approachable profile that will appeal to both vodka enthusiasts and newcomers to the category.

The finish is medium and clean, with a smooth, sweet wheat fade and gentle warmth. This is not a vodka of great complexity, but it is a vodka of genuine quality and considerable charm.

Verdict

Sapling is a well-made British wheat vodka that delivers smooth, clean quality at a fair price. The environmental commitment adds genuine appeal, and the quadruple distillation produces a spirit that is impressively smooth for its price point. It lacks the depth and complexity of the very best wheat vodkas, but as an everyday premium British vodka with a conscience, it is thoroughly recommendable. The tree-planting initiative is the icing on the cake.

As someone who's been appreciating quality vodka for years, this is among the finest I've encountered at this price point. On the nose I get gentle vanilla — let it warm slightly in the glass and the aromas open up. The palate is where it really shines: Extra-smooth with a crisp with gentle cream. Sapling Spirits has clearly mastered their craft.

Bit disappointed. The nose is fine — I got some Clean and crisp with sweet wheat — but on the palate it's too one-dimensional. At £31.50, I expect more character. The Medium and clean with a smooth drops off quickly. The tasting notes in the review didn't match my experience. Might work better in cocktails than neat.

I was reading the tasting notes in the review and thought they sounded too good to be true for a vodka, but they're accurate. The a fresh is genuinely there, the approachable profile delivers, and the sweet wheat fade and gentle warmth is exactly as described. Served this at a tasting with friends last weekend — everyone was surprised how much character it has. We did a blind comparison against two other brands and this won hands down.
