Smirnoff Red Label Bot.1970s — A Vintage Piece of Vodka Heritage
Plain 37.5% ABV ABV Smirnoff (England)Nice but slightly overpriced
Good quality spirit but slightly overpriced for what it is. The showing a gentle grain sweetness and subtle vanilla is the highlight — More characterful than the modern version and well-presented. On the palate, the more grain-forward profile than today's Smirnoff is fine but not exciting. At £49.95, I'd expect more character. The Medium-length with a gentle is pleasant but brief. A reliable mixer.
Not for me
I wanted to like this more than I did. The nose has Mellow and rounded with age but on the palate there's a harshness that I wasn't expecting from the review. The more grain-forward profile than today's Smirnoff described didn't come through for me. The Medium-length with a gentle has a burn where I wanted clean warmth. Others clearly rate it highly so it may be personal preference. Won't be buying another bottle though.
