Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet butterscotch and toffee with a hint of vanilla and cream. Unashamedly dessert-like and quite appealing in its directness.

Palate

Rich and sweet with intense toffee flavour, buttery caramel, and a vodka backbone that provides just enough bite to prevent it becoming purely confectionery.

Finish

Short and sweet with lingering caramel and vanilla.

Thunder Toffee Vodka has carved out a peculiar but profitable niche for itself — it is the unofficial drink of the ski season, a shot-bar staple, and a guilty pleasure for anyone with a sweet tooth. Made with triple-distilled premium vodka and natural toffee syrup, it delivers exactly what it promises: liquid toffee with an alcoholic kick.

The nose is sweet butterscotch and caramel, with vanilla undertones and a creamy richness. On the palate, the toffee is intense and immediate — buttery, sweet, and deeply moreish. At 29.9% ABV, it sits between vodka and liqueur territory, which makes it dangerously drinkable.

The vodka base provides just enough backbone to prevent Thunder from becoming purely a confection. There is a clean spirit note underneath the toffee that keeps things balanced, even if 'balanced' is perhaps a generous description for something this sweet.

At £23.75, it is fairly priced for what it is — and what it is, frankly, is fun. Pour it chilled as a shot, sip it over ice after dinner, or mix it with espresso for a caramel coffee cocktail. Thunder Toffee will never win awards for sophistication, but it has won actual awards for flavour, which counts for something.

It's a solid vodka. The nose has clean character and some subtlety, but on the palate the buttery caramel doesn't quite deliver the complexity I was hoping for. The Short and sweet with lingering caramel and vanilla is a bit brief. Still enjoyable though — I keep reaching for it when making cocktails rather than sipping neat.

Not terrible but not worth the premium. The nose promised interesting things and some depth, but the palate is flat and the Short and sweet with lingering caramel and vanilla disappears too quickly. I've had better vodkas at half the price. The buttery caramel the review describes wasn't apparent to me. Perhaps I got a bad bottle.

Good quality spirit but slightly overpriced for what it is. The nose is the highlight — very clean and well-presented. On the palate, the buttery caramel is fine but not exciting. At £23.75, I'd expect more character. The Short and sweet with lingering caramel and vanilla is pleasant but brief. A reliable mixer.
