Tasting Notes

Nose

Ripe pineapple and a touch of orange blossom, with a clean, sweet backdrop. The eight-week infusion period lends genuine depth to the fruit character.

Palate

Juicy and tropical, with natural-tasting pineapple sweetness balanced by gentle citrus acidity. Smooth and well-integrated.

Finish

Medium length, with lingering tropical fruit and a clean, dry close.

Van Gogh have been producing flavoured vodkas since the early 2000s, and their Pineapple expression — first released in 2002 — is one of the range's enduring successes. The key to its quality lies in the production method: natural pineapple flavours and a hint of orange are infused with the vodka for up to eight weeks, allowing genuine depth and complexity to develop.

The nose immediately confirms that patience. Where many flavoured vodkas smell artificial, there is a ripe, natural pineapple character here that is genuinely appetising, accompanied by orange blossom and a clean sweetness. The palate follows suit — juicy and tropical, with a natural fruit sweetness that avoids the synthetic pitfalls of lesser products.

At 35% ABV and in a generous litre format, this is designed for mixing, and it excels in that role. A Pineapple Martini made with this is vastly superior to one made with cheaper alternatives, and it works beautifully with coconut cream for a contemporary Pina Colada. A well-made flavoured vodka from a house that understands the category.

Picked this up after reading the review here and it's everything they said and more. The with a clean drew me in from the first pour. On the palate, Smooth and well-integrated are elegant rather than aggressive — exactly what you want from a quality vodka. The with lingering tropical fruit and a clean is clean and inviting. Makes a brilliant Martini and equally good sipped neat. This will be a permanent fixture on my shelf.

6/10

Good quality spirit but slightly overpriced for what it is. The Ripe pineapple and a touch of orange blossom is the highlight — very clean and well-presented. On the palate, the Smooth and well-integrated is fine but not exciting. At £36.95, I'd expect more character. The dry close is pleasant but brief. A reliable mixer.
